Auckland grows things on surfaces you wanted to stay bare: moss on south paths, mould on weatherboard, clay film in the west, salt crust on the Shore. Water blasting is the right tool for a lot of that, and the wrong tool for some of it. Pressure that makes a driveway look new can fluff a timber deck and drive water behind paint.
Match the method to the surface
- Concrete driveways and paths: higher pressure, moss killer as agreed, watch the runoff.
- Painted weatherboard: often a soft wash and lower pressure, not a strip-the-paint demonstration.
- Timber decks: careful pressure, or you will raise the grain and shorten the coating’s life.
- Coloursteel and joinery: gentle, and never a close blast into seals.
- Commercial yards: schedule around trucks, traps and neighbours.
Timing
Late winter and early spring are when moss is obvious and before summer entertaining. Pre-sale and pre-paint are the other honest reasons. A blast with no follow-up on a shaded south wall will look good for a month; talk to us about whether a treatment or a more frequent light wash would actually save money.
You need tap access, a place to stand a vehicle, and honesty about flaking paint. We will refuse a job that is going to take the coating off a villa just to make the Instagram before-and-after work.
